'I love you', the trees whispered, 'to the moon and back - with foxes, with memories, with balloons!' But the umbrella of fear turned inside out, then shuddered itself, upside down. 'I love you,' the trees chattered, 'to the opening of doors, to the finding of borders and walking over!' But the newspaper shivered, inked a muttering, and refused to hear a word they said. 'I love you,' the trees shouted, 'and need you too! Like rain, like sunlight, like bees! Like a swing on a comet, like old rope!' And out they leafed the soul of their need, and she there all rooted and scared. 'I love you,' she mimed from the end of the line on behalf of the wood things, and for all things wild, 'and I'll love you today and forever and again. Until you return and unbind.' But that expressionless clown - familiar with frowns - skipped to the walking, and fled.
